Van and Commercial Vehicle Remapping

A working van is not a car with more space in the back. It carries weight, it sits at motorway speed for hours, and every mile it does costs the person driving it money.

What van drivers actually want from a map

Almost nobody who rings us about a van is chasing a peak power figure. They want two things: for it to pull properly from low revs when it is loaded, and for it to use less fuel doing the same round.

Those are the same map on most commercial diesels. Filling in the low and mid range means the engine is working in its comfortable band instead of being revved and worked to get moving, and an engine that is not being thrashed generally uses less fuel.

If you tow, that mid-range is the difference between the van feeling capable and feeling strained.

What we work on

Transits and Transit Customs, Transporters, Sprinters, Vivaros, Traffics, Crafters, Ducatos, Relays, Boxers, pickups and car derived vans, for sole traders and small businesses across the Midlands.

Because the service is mobile, the van does not need to leave your yard, and you do not lose a working day getting it done.

Being straight about whether it is worth it

It is not worth it on every van. A vehicle that is already unwell, or one that does very low mileage, will not repay the work, and we would rather tell you that on the phone than take the booking.

Tell us what the van is, roughly what mileage it does in a week, and what it carries. That is enough for us to give you an honest answer about what would actually change.

Van & Commercial Remapping questions, answered

Can you remap a van?

Yes. Vans and light commercials are a large part of what we do, and the service is mobile so the vehicle does not need to leave your yard.

Will a remap improve my van’s fuel economy?

Often, if the van does consistent mileage and you drive it the same way afterwards. The saving comes from the engine working less hard for the same result. If your mileage is low or very varied, the payback is slower and we will say so.

Will it pull better when loaded?

That is usually the most noticeable change. Filling in low and mid range torque means the van moves a load without needing to be revved.

Which vans do you work on?

Transits and Transit Customs, Transporters, Sprinters, Vivaros, Traffics, Crafters, Ducatos, Relays, Boxers, pickups and car derived vans, among others. Ask about yours.

Is it safe for a high mileage van?

A healthy high mileage engine is usually fine. A tired one is not, and a remap will expose existing weaknesses. If diagnostics show a problem we deal with that first rather than mapping over it.

Do I need to tell my insurer?

Yes. A remap is a modification and should be declared, on a commercial vehicle just as on a car.

Will it affect my warranty or lease?

It can. If the van is under warranty, leased or on finance, tell us at the enquiry stage and we will give you a straight answer about whether to proceed.

Can you put it back to standard?

Yes. We read and save the original file before writing anything, so the van can be returned to how it was.

How long does a van take?

Usually one to three hours. Some commercial ECUs take longer to read and write than a car equivalent.

Can you do it at my yard or on a job?

Yes, as long as there is somewhere safe to work at the vehicle. That is the point of a mobile service.

Do you work on tippers, lutons and crew cabs?

Yes, the same engines are underneath in most cases. Tell us the base vehicle and the engine.

Will towing change what map I need?

It changes the emphasis. If you tow regularly, say so, and the map is written around usable low and mid range pull rather than top end.

Want a straight answer about your vehicle?

Tell us what it is and how you use it, and we will tell you honestly what is worth doing.
