ECU Remapping in Broughton Astley
Broughton Astley is a big village that empties outwards every morning. Lutterworth is five and a half miles one way, Hinckley about six another, Leicester a little over eight. Almost nobody here works where they live, and that daily choice of direction decides more about whether a remap is worth your money than the car does.
Three directions out, three different answers
Lutterworth sits five and a half miles south of the village, Hinckley is around six to the west and Leicester a little over eight to the north. Which of those you point the car at every morning matters more to how an engine ages than the badge on the bonnet does. A short hop to Lutterworth, a cross country run over to Hinckley and a slow crawl into Leicester are three separate jobs, and they wear a modern turbo diesel in three different ways.
The Leicester commuters are the ones we end up talking to about soot and filters, because a queue into a city is about the hardest use a diesel gets. Drivers heading the other two ways usually have an easier time of it, with enough settled running to get everything properly hot and keep it there. Tell us which of those describes your week and half the conversation about what the map should be aimed at is already finished.
So the opening question is not how much power you want. It is how far you go, which way, and how much of that is spent sitting still. If the honest answer is four miles a day and a supermarket run at the weekend, we will tell you your money is better spent elsewhere. There is background on what the work involves on our ECU remapping page.
Five and a half miles means we can be flexible
Broughton Astley is one of the closest places on our list to the workshop on Rugby Road in Lutterworth. In practice that means nobody is making an expedition of it, so we can usually be more accommodating about timing here than we can with somewhere twenty miles out. Early in the morning, late in the afternoon, or slotted in between two other jobs are all workable if you ask when you ring.
The work happens where the vehicle already is. A driveway is ideal, a quiet street is usually fine, and a work car park is fine as long as whoever runs the site is happy. What matters is room for the vehicle to sit with the engine able to run and somewhere sensible nearby to drive it properly afterwards. Reckon on an hour to ninety minutes for the visit. Mobile ECU remapping in Lutterworth explains the rest.
One thing genuinely stops a job, and it is the battery. Writing to an ECU needs steady voltage held for several minutes, and a battery that starts the car perfectly happily can still sag halfway through that. If yours is getting old, or the car has been standing a while, mention it when you book and we will arrive prepared rather than having to stop partway.

Call 07773 694570The map is written for your car, not your engine code
A file that matches your engine code is not the same thing as a file written for your vehicle. What happens here is that the calibration currently sitting on the ECU is read off and stored, then the engine is logged on the road so we can see how it is behaving rather than how it ought to be. Fuelling, boost and timing are adjusted from there, and the car is logged again afterwards to confirm the change did what it was supposed to.
What you notice afterwards is rarely a headline figure. It is the middle of the rev range, where the car stops asking for a gear change to deal with a gradient or a junction that needs you to be up to speed quickly. That is the part of the engine you genuinely use around here, which is why we talk about where a change lands rather than throwing numbers at you that nobody could stand behind.
The stored original does not get binned once the new file is in. If you sell the car, hand a lease back, or want a dealer looking at something completely standard, it goes back to the software it arrived with and it takes minutes to do. Nothing we write to a vehicle here is a one way door, and you are welcome to ask for it back at any point.
The villages this page now covers
This page takes in the villages around Broughton Astley as well as the village itself, so Sutton in the Elms, Primethorpe, Dunton Bassett, Leire, Frolesworth, Ashby Magna, Willoughby Waterleys, Sharnford, Sapcote, Stoney Stanton and both Claybrookes are all included. If you are in one of them, say so when you ring, because two vehicles in the same area on the same day suits everybody involved.
Several of the places nearby have pages of their own. Narborough is under three miles north and Whetstone about three and a half. Which of those pages you happened to land on changes nothing about the job or what it costs, so if you are not sure which one covers where you live, ring and describe the road you are on.
Remapping in broughton-astley: your questions answered
How far is Broughton Astley from you?
Five and a half miles, with the workshop on Rugby Road in Lutterworth. It is one of the nearest places we cover, which is why there is normally more flexibility about timing here than for somewhere much further out. We come to the vehicle rather than expecting you to bring it in, although you are very welcome to do that instead if it suits you better.
Can you do it while the car sits on my driveway?
Yes, and that is how most jobs here happen. A driveway is the easiest case, a quiet street is usually fine, and a work car park is fine if whoever manages it agrees. The vehicle needs to be able to sit with the engine running, and there needs to be somewhere sensible close by to drive it properly once the map is loaded.
I commute into Leicester and back. Will a map help?
It can, but the thing worth discussing first is what that commute is doing to the engine. Eight miles of slow traffic twice a day is the hardest pattern for a diesel, and the filter usually shows it before the performance does. Tell us the mileage and how much of it is queueing, and we will tell you whether a map is the right spend or whether something else needs attention first.
What am I actually going to feel afterwards?
The middle of the rev range, mostly. Less need to drop a gear on a gradient, an easier time getting up to speed when you join something busy, and a car that feels like it is working less hard to do the same journey. Peak output at the top of the rev band is the part almost nobody uses on the roads around here, so that is not what we aim at.
I am in one of the villages nearby. Am I covered?
Sutton in the Elms, Primethorpe, Dunton Bassett, Leire, Frolesworth, Ashby Magna, Willoughby Waterleys, Sharnford, Sapcote, Stoney Stanton, Claybrooke Magna and Claybrooke Parva, alongside Broughton Astley itself. Narborough, Whetstone, Blaby and Enderby all have their own pages and are within four miles. If you are unsure which one applies to you, it does not matter. Ring and say where you are.
Can the car be put back to how it was?
Yes. The original calibration is read off and stored before anything is written, so the vehicle can be returned to exactly the software it left the factory with. People ask for that when they are selling, when a lease is going back, or before a dealer looks at a fault. It is a quick job and there is no awkwardness about asking.
Do I have to tell my insurer?
Yes, treat it as you would any other modification and declare it. It is a short phone call and most insurers deal with it without any drama. The only time it becomes a problem is when nobody was told and it surfaces during a claim, which is the worst possible moment to be having that conversation.
There is a warning light on. Can you still map it?
We would want to know what it is first. A map is not a repair, and writing more torque into an engine that is already struggling with something finds the weak point faster rather than fixing it. Tell us the code or describe the symptom when you ring. Quite often that conversation alone tells us whether a map makes sense yet.
Will it affect my DPF?
A properly written map should not make a filter worse, and on a car that gets a decent run it often produces less soot for the filter to deal with. If yours is already blocking, that is a separate job, and we handle it as diagnostics, cleaning and a forced regeneration. We do not remove filters or write software that pretends one is still fitted.
How do I book, and what should I have ready to tell you?
Ring 07773 694570 with the make, model, year and engine size, roughly where in the village the car will be, and what you want out of it. Say if there is a light on the dash, if anything has been changed on it, or if it is on finance. That conversation is where we work out whether the job is worth doing for you, and it costs nothing to have it.
