Weather is the other one. Most of the work happens from inside the vehicle, so drizzle changes nothing, but genuinely foul conditions with nowhere sheltered to work is a reason to move rather than rush. Parking counts too. If your street is narrow, on a hill, or there is nowhere the vehicle can sit undisturbed for an hour or two, that is worth mentioning when you ring instead of discovering it when we arrive.
And some people simply want to be stood there while it happens, asking what is being changed and why. That is a perfectly good reason on its own, and the workshop is the easier setting for it, because there is nothing to pack away and no reason to hurry. Whichever you choose, the sequence is the same. The original calibration is read off the ECU and saved before anything is altered. The engine is logged on the road so we can see what it is really doing rather than what the spec sheet claims. The map is written around that specific vehicle and how it gets used, loaded, and then logged again afterwards to confirm the changes behaved as intended and that nothing is sitting outside sensible limits.
Same equipment, same files, same road test. A car parked on Rugby Road and a car parked on your driveway a mile away are the same engineering problem, and the vehicle has no idea where it is standing while its ECU is being read. Anyone claiming a mobile map is inherently a lesser map is describing how they themselves work rather than how the technology works.
Reckon on about an hour to ninety minutes for a typical job, with the road testing on top, and rather longer on vehicles whose ECUs are slow to read and write. What to have ready if we come to you

Can you come out to me in the evening or at a weekend?
Ring and ask rather than assuming either way. The schedule is built round wherever the van needs to be that day, and something local is far easier to slot in than the same request twenty miles out. Yes, provided there is somewhere safe to work at the vehicle and whoever runs the site is happy with it. That second part matters more than people expect on business parks and shared yards, so it is worth checking before you book rather than after we have arrived.
What if something goes wrong halfway through?
Your original file is read and saved before a single thing is written, so the vehicle can be put straight back to standard on the spot. That safety net is the same whether the work is happening on your driveway or at the workshop, and it is the reason the original is always taken first rather than as an afterthought.
Can I watch while you do it?
If you want to, the workshop is the easier setting for that, and plenty of people prefer it. You can ask what is being changed and why as it happens. On a mobile visit you are welcome to stand and watch too, though a lot of the time is spent quietly reading and writing files, which is less interesting than it sounds.
Do I have to decide when I book?
