ECU Remapping in Ratby
The question worth asking before anybody touches your car is not how much it will gain. It is what happens if you change your mind. Every job starts with your factory calibration being copied off and kept, which is why nothing written to a Ratby car has to be permanent.
Nothing that gets written has to stay
Before a single value is altered, the original file comes off the ECU and gets stored. That is the whole reason this work can be offered honestly. If you sell the car, hand a lease back, or want a dealer looking at something without any awkward conversation, the vehicle goes back to the calibration it was delivered with and there is very little time or fuss involved in doing it.
It also means you are allowed to change your mind for no particular reason. Some people want to drive both and decide for themselves which they prefer, and that is a perfectly sensible way to spend an afternoon. Anybody unwilling to store your original file, or unable to tell you plainly how the car gets put back, is asking you to take a risk you do not need to take.
The one thing that is not reversible by staying quiet is the paperwork. A remap is a modification and it needs declaring to your insurer, the same as any other change. Most treat it as routine. The problem only ever appears when it was never mentioned and then surfaces in the middle of a claim.
What you are actually paying for
Ratby sits under five miles from Leicester, so a lot of the driving here happens at moderate speed on ordinary roads, with the occasional longer run north or west. That is the use the file gets written around. The change lands low and mid range, which is where you spend nearly all of your time, and the description of it is about effort rather than numbers: the car doing what you asked without being worked hard for it.
You will not get a percentage over the phone, because a figure given before the car has been seen is a guess dressed up as expertise. Two vehicles wearing the same badge and the same engine code can be in very different states of health, and only one approach notices the difference. There is background on the engine side under performance remapping in Leicester if you want it first.
The work itself is a sequence rather than an upload. Read and store the original, log the engine on the road, adjust fuelling, boost and timing for how the vehicle is used, then log it again, because measuring the result is the only honest way to know the change did what it was meant to.
Want to know what would be written to your car?Ring and ask. You will be told what changes, why, and whether it is worth doing on your particular vehicle.

Diesel particulate filters do not get removed here, and no software gets written that pretends a missing one is still fitted. It fails an MOT and it makes the vehicle unlawful to use on the road. The same applies to EGR and AdBlue: they get diagnosed, repaired and made to work as designed, never blanked, deleted or emulated. If a delete is what you are after, we are the wrong people and it is better said now than after you have waited in.
A map is also not a repair, which is the other half of the same honesty. A tired turbo, a leaking injector, a sticking valve or a part blocked filter will not be fixed by adding torque, they will simply be found sooner. Where the symptoms point that way the job becomes diagnostic, and there is more on that under DPF cleaning and diagnostics in Leicester.
Five villages, and thirteen miles of road to get here
This page covers Groby, Kirby Muxloe, Kirby Fields, Leicester Forest East and Bondman Hays as well as Ratby itself. All of them are close enough that the arrangements are identical, and if you are nearer somewhere else, Desford is under three miles, with Anstey, Markfield and Enderby all within four and a half and each with a page of their own.
The workshop is on Rugby Road in Lutterworth, about thirteen miles south of you. That is far enough to want a time agreed rather than a rough window, and far enough that the vehicle details are worth having in advance so the right kit travels. Once here it is an ordinary visit: a driveway is ideal, a quiet street usually works, and an hour to ninety minutes covers it.
Remapping in Ratby: your questions answered
Can the car be put back to standard afterwards?
Yes, and quickly. Your factory file is read off the ECU and stored before anything is written to it, so the vehicle can be returned to the exact state it arrived in. People ask for that when selling, at the end of a lease, or before a dealer looks at something. Nobody has to explain why they want it, and there is nothing complicated about arranging it.
Do I need to tell my insurer?
Yes. It counts as a modification and belongs on the policy alongside anything else you have altered. Insurers are generally untroubled by it once they know, and the call takes a couple of minutes. Leaving it undeclared saves nothing and creates a problem at the worst possible time, which is while somebody is assessing a claim after an accident.
My car is still under warranty or on finance. Should I wait?
Say so when you ring and you will get a straight answer for your situation rather than a general one. A manufacturer warranty can be affected if a fault is later traced to the software, and finance or lease agreements sometimes carry their own conditions about modifications. The original file being stored helps, but it is much better to know where you stand beforehand.
Do you remove or blank DPFs, EGRs or AdBlue?
No, on any vehicle and for any reason. Removing a filter is an MOT failure and leaves the vehicle unlawful to use on the road, and no software gets written here that pretends a missing one is still present. Those systems get diagnosed, cleaned, force regenerated and repaired so they work as intended. If a delete is what you want, we are not the right people.
How much power will it gain?
You will not be given a percentage before the car has been seen, because that number would be invented. What can be said is where the change lands, which is low and mid range, and who it suits. Tell us the exact vehicle, its mileage and its history and you will get a realistic expectation for that car rather than a figure lifted off a brochure.
How far is Ratby from your workshop?
About thirteen miles. The workshop is on Rugby Road in Lutterworth and you are north of us, with Leicester under five miles the other way. That distance means a proper time gets agreed rather than a vague window, and the vehicle details are wanted in advance. The visit itself is an ordinary one, done wherever the car is parked.
Which villages does this page cover?
Groby, Kirby Muxloe, Kirby Fields, Leicester Forest East and Bondman Hays, as well as Ratby itself. Desford is under three miles away and has its own page, as do Anstey, Markfield and Enderby within four and a half miles. Whichever you use, the visit is arranged the same way, because all of them are the same trip out.
The car has a warning light on. Will a map sort it?
No, and it will usually make things worse. A map adds load to whatever is already struggling, which brings a failure forward rather than curing it. Tell us the code, or just describe what the car is doing, and you will be told honestly whether something needs fixing before any tuning makes sense. Sometimes the answer is that the map is not the job at all.
Is a naturally aspirated petrol worth doing?
Often not, and that gets said rather than glossed over. There is far less spare margin in the software on an engine without a turbo, so the realistic gain can be small enough that the money is better kept. Turbocharged petrols are a different matter and usually respond well. Give us the precise engine and you will be told which of those two yours is.
What should I have ready when I call?
Make, model, year and engine size, where in Ratby or the surrounding villages the car sits, and what you want out of it. Mention service history, warning lights and anything that has felt off lately. Battery condition is worth flagging too, because writing to an ECU needs steady voltage all the way through and a weak one is the usual reason a job stops.
