Mobile ECU Remapping in Hinckley
Plenty of Hinckley works in Leicester and plenty of it works in Coventry, which means that during the working day the car is usually parked in a different county from its owner. A mobile service is not a luxury in a town like this. It is the only version of the job that fits round the week.
The awkward bit about booking a garage when you commute out of town
Booking a vehicle in somewhere means getting it there, getting yourself back, and then repeating the whole exercise later. If you already leave Hinckley every morning to be somewhere else by eight, that is not an inconvenience, it is a day off work. For a lot of people here it is the reason the job never actually gets done.
We take the vehicle out of the equation by bringing the equipment to it instead. It stays where it is parked. Nobody has to arrange a lift back from an industrial estate and there is no courtesy car conversation, because there is no drop off in the first place. Whether that is your drive at home, a car park you have permission to use, or a yard full of work vans, the job is the same job.
Hinckley is roughly ten miles from our base on Rugby Road in Lutterworth, which makes it one of the shorter runs we do, and we are already through Hinckley, Burbage and Barwell regularly. Getting to you is genuinely not the problem. If a neighbour wants theirs doing at the same time, that tends to work out well for everybody involved.
What happens when we arrive
The original calibration gets read off the ECU and saved first, before anything is altered. Then the engine is logged on the road so the map is written against how your vehicle actually behaves rather than how the model is supposed to behave. The file goes on, and then it is logged again to check the change did what it should and that nothing is sitting outside sensible limits.
That road test uses the roads you use. Hinckley is handy for it, because within a couple of miles there is a motorway slip road, a dual carriageway, a long 50 limit on the A5 and ordinary town traffic. Testing across all four tells you far more than testing on any single one of them.
Most jobs run about an hour to ninety minutes at the vehicle. You get the keys back with the car already road tested, not with a promise to check it later. If something turns up on the test that we are not happy with, you hear about it there and then, and the original file goes straight back on.
Car sat in Coventry all day and never free for a garage? We come to where it is parked in Hinckley, so it never has to leave your street.

Somewhere the vehicle can sit safely while we work at it, and a battery in reasonable health. Those two things are what cause almost every problem. A tired battery matters because the ECU wants stable voltage while it is being written to, and a voltage drop midway through a write is the one genuine risk in this job. If you already suspect yours, say so at the booking and we will come prepared for it.
Parking varies a lot across the town. Around the terraced streets near the centre it can be tight, and if that is your situation it is worth thinking about where the car will be rather than leaving it to luck on the day. Out in Burbage and Barwell most people have a drive and it stops being a question at all. Where it is awkward, tell us and it usually gets solved between us in a minute.
Everything else comes with us, so there is nothing for you to buy, borrow or arrange beforehand, and no reason to move anything around the night before. If you want more detail on what the remapping work actually involves before booking anything in, the Hinckley remapping page goes through it properly. A phone call is usually quicker than reading, though, and it costs you nothing either way.
Coverage, and the workshop option
We work across Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and into the West Midlands, so Hinckley sits comfortably inside that area rather than out at the edge of it. The town itself, Burbage and Barwell are places we are in regularly, and the villages in between are no different. If you are somewhere less obvious, ring and ask rather than assume. It is a thirty second conversation.
If you would rather bring the vehicle to us, the workshop is at Lutterworth and from Hinckley it is a straightforward run. Some people prefer that, usually because they want to be there while it happens and their own street is not the place for it. Either way the work, the equipment and the files are identical. The vehicle has no idea where it is parked.
If you are not sure which of the services you actually need, describe the symptom or the goal instead of the service name. That is a much better starting point for the conversation, and you can also see the full list of locations we cover if you want to check somebody else's address at the same time.
Mobile ECU Remapping in Hinckley: your questions answered
Can you come to me while I am at work in Leicester or Coventry?
If the vehicle is parked somewhere we can safely work at it and whoever owns the site is content with it, yes. In practice a lot of Hinckley customers find home easier, because the parking is theirs to offer and nobody has to ask a facilities manager for permission. Either arrangement works, it just wants sorting out beforehand rather than on the morning.
Is a mobile remap as good as one done indoors?
It is the same equipment, the same reading and writing process and the same road test afterwards. The only thing that genuinely needs a bench is an ECU that has to be opened and read directly, and that is a property of the vehicle rather than of where it happens to be parked. If yours is one of those, you will know before we set off.
How long do you need the vehicle for?
Usually about an hour to ninety minutes on site. That covers reading and saving the original file, logging the engine, writing the map, loading it and road testing. It is short enough that it does not need to swallow a working day, which for most people here is the entire point.
Do you need to plug into my electricity?
No. Everything needed arrives in the van. What we do need is a battery in the vehicle that is in decent health, because stable voltage while the ECU is being written to matters more than anything else that happens on the day.
What if it rains?
Most of the work is done from inside the vehicle through the diagnostic port, so ordinary British weather is rarely a factor. If conditions are genuinely unsafe to be working at a car on a road, we will move the appointment rather than rush through it and hope.
My street is quite tight. Is that a problem?
Often not, but mention it when you book. What matters is that the vehicle can sit without blocking anybody, that there is room to work at it, and that it can get out again for the road test. Where a street is genuinely difficult, the answer is sometimes just to meet somewhere five minutes away instead.
Can you do two cars at the same address?
Yes, and it is usually the sensible way to arrange it. Two vehicles on one visit means less travelling for us and less organising for you. Households and neighbours in Burbage and Barwell do it fairly regularly. Tell us both vehicles when you ring so enough time gets set aside for the pair.
Do I need to be there the whole time?
You need to be there at the start and the end, to hand the keys over and take them back. In between there is no need to stand and watch unless you want to. Plenty of people do want to, which is fine, and you will get an explanation of what is on the screen if you ask for one.
What if something goes wrong while you are at my house?
The original file is read and saved before anything is written, so putting the vehicle back exactly as it was is a step that can be taken on the spot. That is the whole reason it is saved first rather than as an afterthought.
Do you cover vans as well as cars at the roadside?
Yes, and for a working vehicle the mobile option is usually the entire reason for ringing, because a van sat at a garage is a van not earning. The approach is the same, the questions we ask about how it is used are different.
How do I book?
Ring or message 07773 694570 with the vehicle, roughly where in Hinckley you are, and what you are hoping to change. Or send it through the contact form if that is easier. The first conversation is usually about whether the job is worth doing at all, which is the part worth having before anybody picks a date.
How far will you travel?
We cover Leicestershire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and the West Midlands, and Hinckley at around ten miles is one of the closer towns to the Lutterworth base. If you are on the outer edge of that and unsure, just ask. Better to find out on the phone than to assume it either way.
