ECU Remapping in Measham
Measham is at the far north west edge of what we cover, a little over twenty one miles from the workshop and much closer to Ashby de la Zouch than to anything else on our list. That does not make it awkward. It makes it a planned visit rather than a drop in, which is worth saying plainly.
Twenty one miles out, and why we still come
Being honest about distance matters more than pretending everywhere is five minutes away. Measham is one of the longer runs we make, and the nearest larger places we cover from here are Hinckley and Nuneaton, both around twelve or thirteen miles off. That means a Measham job is arranged for a particular day rather than squeezed into a gap, so booking a week or so ahead usually gets you a time that suits rather than one that merely exists.
What it does not mean is a worse job or a rushed one. The equipment, the process and the time spent at the vehicle are identical to a car three miles from the workshop. The only difference is on our side of the arrangement, in the planning, and that is our problem rather than yours. Ring, say when the car is available, and we will tell you straight away what is realistic.
The other advantage of a planned day is that there is no pressure to be somewhere else afterwards. Reading the original file, logging the car on the road, writing the map and logging it again is an hour to ninety minutes of work, and it should not be hurried because of somebody else's booking. If you want the general background first, it is on our ECU remapping page.
The area this page takes in
Measham itself is the anchor, but the page covers a wide scatter of surrounding places: Acresford, Appleby Magna, Appleby Parva, Chilcote, Donisthorpe, Norton Juxta Twycross, Oakthorpe, Snarestone, Stretton en le Field and Swepstone. Several of those are small enough that nobody would build a page for them individually, which is exactly why they sit here instead of being left with nowhere sensible to land.
Ashby de la Zouch is the closest covered town at a little over three miles, with Ibstock, Outwoods and Coalville all within about six. If you are between two of those and cannot work out which page is yours, it genuinely does not matter. Tell us the postcode and we will sort the rest out. The full spread is listed on our locations page.
Because this is the western edge of the area, we do get asked whether we will come further out still. Sometimes yes, sometimes no, and the honest answer depends on the day and what else is booked. It costs nothing to ask, and we would rather say no on the phone than take a booking we cannot make a good job of.
Out towards Ashby and wondering if we cover you?We do. Ring with the vehicle details and when it is available, and we will give you a date rather than a maybe.

Each map is written for the individual vehicle. The original calibration is read off the ECU and saved, the engine is logged on the road so there is real data rather than an assumption, and fuelling, boost and timing are then adjusted for how the vehicle is actually used. Afterwards it is logged again, because measuring the result is the only way to know a change did what it was meant to do.
Files chosen because an engine code matched are the common alternative, and they are a gamble. Two cars with identical badges can be in very different condition, and a tired turbo, a lazy injector or an air leak all change what is sensible to ask of an engine. That shows up in logged data and nowhere else, which is why the logging is not an optional extra tacked on at the end.
What we will not do is touch emissions equipment. Particulate filters are diagnosed, cleaned and force regenerated, never removed, because removal is an MOT failure and makes the vehicle unlawful to use on the road. EGR and AdBlue faults get properly diagnosed and repaired rather than blanked or emulated. There is more on the diagnostic side at DPF cleaning and diagnostics in Hinckley.
Worth doing, or not worth doing
Some cars are not candidates and we will say so. If a vehicle is down on power because something is worn or failing, a map does not repair it. It masks the symptom briefly and then finds the weak point, usually at the worst possible moment. So the questions come first: warning lights, service history, anything odd about how it has been running, and anything that has been done to it recently.
The same applies to engines with very little margin in the software. A small naturally aspirated petrol has far less to give than a modern turbocharged engine, and on some of them the honest answer is that the money would be better spent elsewhere. Saying that costs us a booking and saves you a disappointment, which is a trade we have always been happy to make.
When it is worth doing, nothing about it is irreversible. The saved original file means the car can go back to exactly the state it arrived in, which matters for a sale, a lease return or a dealer who wants the vehicle standard before discussing a warranty claim. And it is a modification, so declare it to your insurer once it is done rather than meaning to and forgetting.
Remapping in Measham: your questions answered
Do you really cover Measham, or is it too far?
We cover it. It is a little over twenty one miles from the workshop in Lutterworth, which makes it one of the longer runs we do, so it gets arranged for a particular day rather than fitted into a gap. Book a few days ahead and you will usually get a time that suits you. The job itself is exactly the same as one three miles away.
Which villages does this page cover?
Acresford, Appleby Magna, Appleby Parva, Chilcote, Donisthorpe, Norton Juxta Twycross, Oakthorpe, Snarestone, Stretton en le Field and Swepstone, alongside Measham itself. Ashby de la Zouch is about three miles away with a page of its own, and Ibstock, Outwoods and Coalville are all within roughly six. If you are unsure, give us the postcode and we will tell you.
Does being this far out affect the price?
Distance does not change what you are quoted. Car remaps from £129, with vans and commercial vehicles priced per vehicle since the work involved is not comparable. Ring with the details and you will have the figure before committing to anything. If we think a map is not worth the money on your particular car, you will hear that on the same phone call.
How long will you be at the vehicle?
Usually about an hour to ninety minutes. That covers reading and saving the original calibration, logging the engine on the road, writing and loading the map, then logging again to confirm the result. Some control units take longer to read and write than others, and we would tell you that when you book rather than letting you find out on the day.
Can I bring the car to you instead?
You are very welcome to. The workshop is on Rugby Road in Lutterworth. Plenty of people out this way prefer to come in because it fits around something else they are doing anyway. Nothing about the work changes either way, so it is purely whichever is more convenient for you. Ring first so we know to expect you.
Do you remove DPFs?
No. Removal is an MOT failure and makes the vehicle unlawful to use on the road, and we will not write software that pretends a missing filter is still there. What we do is diagnose why the filter is loading, clean it properly and run a forced regeneration. EGR and AdBlue are the same story: diagnosed and repaired, never blanked or emulated.
My van does short local runs and the DPF light keeps coming on. What now?
That driving pattern is the usual culprit, because the exhaust rarely gets hot enough for a regeneration to complete. But it is worth checking whether something upstream is also producing more soot than it should, such as an injector or a sensor reading wrong. Describe the symptoms and the mileage when you ring and that conversation narrows it down considerably.
Is a remap safe for the engine?
When it is written for the individual vehicle and kept inside what the drivetrain was built for, yes. The danger is a generic file loaded because an engine code matched, with nothing measured before or after. We log the car both ways so we can see what is actually happening. A vehicle that is already unwell is a different conversation and we would rather have it first.
Can it be undone?
Yes. The original calibration is read and stored before anything is written to the ECU, so the vehicle goes back to precisely the state it was in when we arrived. People want that when selling, handing a lease back, or when a dealer wants the car standard before a warranty discussion. It is a short job and there is no reluctance about doing it.
What do I need to tell you when I ring?
Make, model, year and engine size, where the vehicle is and when it is free, plus any warning lights, recent work or anything odd about how it has been driving. Given that this is a planned trip out, a couple of dates that would work for you is genuinely useful too. The conversation itself costs nothing.
